One of the many benefits of working in the Southwestern Summer Intern Program is assistance, while in college, from the Career Services Office and additional follow-up service as a Southwestern Alumnus. Our career counselors, Joni Bicknese and Shayne Merrick provide three areas of assistance through Career Services. Academic Counseling While in College Academic Counseling includes help with choosing a major or graduate school, aid in applying to various institutions, up-to-date information and advice on different graduate examinations, and letters of recommendation. Career Counseling Joni and Shayne are very much involved in Career Counseling. Throughout the year they travel to various campuses and attend other Southwestern functions which give them the opportunity to get to know the students who work in the Summer Program on a very personal basis. Meeting with students during the school year affords Career Services the ability to best counsel the students when they are finished in the Summer Program and moving into the job market. Joni and Shayne are also able to use various testing tools to assist in those career recommendations. Career Placement Assistance Career Placement Assistance is available for students graduating from Southwestern's Summer Program and very importantly--alumni. One of the most appreciated services is assistance in putting together a great resume. Alumni are able to get help in that area for years after they have left the program. Career Services is able to help arrange interviews with various inside or "sister" companies, as well as nexus and outside firms. Joni and Shayne are there every step of the interview process--helping with mock interviews, advising on dress and proper interview etiquette, negotiating income recommendations, accepting new positions, and approaching training in a new career. Various companies actively search out alumni with a few years of experience behind them for even better opportunitites, so Career Services is truly there at almost every step of a Southwestern Dealer's career development. Southwestern Student Managers and Alumni who are interested in connecting with Career Services, please either email your resume to Joni Bicknese or Shayne Merrick, or contact either at (800) 533-7977.
